Charles Gardner

Director of Consulting

After an early career in consumer marketing at Sara Lee and BET, Charles joined Tesco in 1982 as part of a newly formed category marketing department headed by (now Sir) Terry Leahy working across wide areas of food & grocery.

Two years on he was appointed Head of Buying and Marketing at Tesco Ireland based in Dublin. In 1986 he returned to the UK and held senior buying positions in fresh food through to 1992 before joining St Ivel as Director responsible for Purchasing, In bound Logistics and St Ivel's' businesses outside the UK.

Charles joined Glendinning in 1994 as a Director of Consulting. Whilst at Glendinning Charles has used his wide commercial experience to deliver value for many retail and supplier clients around the world (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America ) and in many channels (Grocery, Mass Merchandisers, Convenience, Forecourt, Cash and Carry / Wholesale, Electrical, Travel, Apparel). This experience enables him to work effectively across Glendinning's offer including Board level and multi functional strategy development, Turning strategy to action across category, consumer, shopper, customer, POP and supply chain, nRetailer / supplier joint working, nCapability development, nSuppliers understanding retailers and retailers understanding suppliers
